Great ways to keep your patio furniture looking great

November 12th, 2008

A lot of people struggle to keep their patio furniture clean in the summertime. Dirt and dust collect on furniture and tables at all times when they are left outside. This can particularly be a pain, especially if you are having a party or celebration. Water spots on vinyl are tough to erase. There are a few tricks everyone should know about keeping their patio furniture like new. All of these tips can be used by anyone, even if you don’t have any experience cleaning patio furniture. All you need is a little basic knowledge of cleaning products and a little intuition and persistence.

The first step to keeping your patio furniture clean is to choose the right types of cleaning products. I like to use dish soap because it fights grease and dirt and is antibacterial. Using this method, you can minimize input of chemicals. I.E. you don’t need much dish soap to clean with.

Fill a spray bottle with hot water and just a little bit of dish soap. This is a great solvent for a variety of applications. Start by spraying down all the furniture you want to clean. I would recommend using a s.o.s pad or sponge. You can use an old towel if you have nothing else. Gingerly apply the solution to the parts needing to be cleaned. Briskly rub down your furniture with your rag. Remember to soak your rag in a bucket to release all dirt particles in your rag. This will ensure that you do not end up spreading dirt around, and allows you to clean as well as possible.

A little bit of dish soap in a water bottle should go a very long way. After everything has been thoroughly scrubbed down, go ahead and hose it all off. Remember, this is outdoor furniture, and the sun will dry it nicely.

Another thing you can do is pick up covers for your patio furniture. This keeps most of the dirt off of your furniture. This also ensures that the fabric on your patio chairs does not become bleached in the sun when they are covered. There is no way to re-establish the color on your fabric when the sun bleaches it, so if you are worried about it, covers are the way to go.

Just by keeping your furniture clean and covered, you can maintain this great addition to any home. Simple things like dish soap can make a world of difference in the way others view you and your style.
